Whichever device you use, the process is almost always the same. The app is only the player; the channels come through your personal login details.

  1. Have your login details readyAfter you buy a plan or request the free test, you receive your username, password and server URL plus an M3U playlist link by e-mail. Keep that e-mail open while you set up.
  2. Install the right appThe device guides below show which app suits your device. Many apps are free to install; some ask for their own licence after a trial period.
  3. Enter your detailsChoose "Xtream Codes" (username, password, URL), which is usually the most stable option. Alternatively, add the M3U link as a playlist.
  4. Load the channel list and watchThe app loads live TV, films, series and the TV guide. The first load can take a minute or two, especially on a busy LTE connection.

  1. Allow apps from unknown sourcesSettings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → turn on "Install unknown apps" for Downloader. If Developer Options is missing, go to About and click the device name seven times.
  2. Install DownloaderUse the search on the home screen to find "Downloader" and install the free app.
  3. Install the IPTV appIn Downloader, enter the download address of the app you want, for example tivimate.com, then download and install it. Our support team can send you the address for IPTV Smarters Pro on WhatsApp.
  4. Enter your login detailsOpen the app → choose "Xtream Codes" → enter the username, password and server URL from the e-mail. Tip: the Fire TV remote app on your phone makes typing much easier.
  5. DoneChannels appear sorted into categories such as "South Africa", "Sport" or "UK". Catch-up and the EPG are ready straight away.

  1. Get the app from the Play StoreSearch the Google Play Store for "TiviMate" (ideal for TVs and boxes) or "IPTV Smarters Pro" (works on phones too) and install it.
  2. Add a playlistOn first launch choose "Add playlist" → "Xtream Codes" and enter the server URL, username and password.
  3. Load the channelsThe app loads the channel list and TV guide. Under "Favourites" you can pin SABC 1, SuperSport Rugby or kykNET right at the top.

Recommended apps: IBO Player Smart IPTV

  1. Install the appOpen your TV's app section (Samsung: Apps in Smart Hub, LG: LG Content Store), search for "IBO Player" or "Smart IPTV" and install it.
  2. Note the MAC addressLaunch the app. The screen shows the MAC address (and a device key for IBO Player). Write both down or take a photo with your phone.
  3. Add the playlist on the websiteOn your PC or phone, open the app's website, enter the MAC address or device key and add the M3U link from your e-mail.
  4. Restart the appClose the app on the TV and open it again. The channel list now loads.

  1. Get the app from the App StoreSearch the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV for "GSE Smart IPTV" or "IPTV Smarters Pro" and install it.
  2. Add your accessIn GSE Smart IPTV: "Xtream Codes API" → plus sign → enter the server URL, username and password. Or paste the M3U link under "Remote Playlists".
  3. WatchOpen the channel list and start watching. On Apple TV it is worth saving your go-to South African channels as favourites.

  1. Install VLCDownload VLC free from videolan.org and install it.
  2. Open a network streamWindows: Media → Open Network Stream (Ctrl+N). Mac: File → Open Network (Cmd+N). Paste your M3U link and click Play.
  3. Choose a channelSwitch channels in VLC's playlist. For the EPG and catch-up, an app on your TV is more comfortable.

IPTV Smarters Pro setup in detail

IPTV Smarters Pro is a popular choice because it looks the same on a Fire TV Stick, Android, iPhone and many TVs. Here is how to enter your access correctly:

  1. Choose "Login with Xtream Codes API"This option loads films, series and the TV guide as well as live TV. The M3U playlist option also works but is usually less convenient.
  2. Fill in the fields"Any Name": whatever you like, e.g. "Home" or "Lounge". "Username" and "Password": exactly as in the e-mail, watch the capital letters. "URL": the server URL including http:// and the port.
  3. Tap "Add User"The app loads the content. Then choose "Live TV", "Movies" or "Series". You can refresh the EPG manually in settings if needed.

Setting up IPTV in South Africa: tips for your home network

Most problems after setup have nothing to do with the app and everything to do with Wi-Fi. The fibre ONT and router are often mounted in a passage or garage, while the TV is in the lounge. And on LTE, the signal can change during the evening peak. These tips help:

  • Network cable instead of Wi-Fi for your TV and Android box. It adds the most stability, especially in 4K on a big match night.
  • Bandwidth: about 10 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K per device. If several people watch at once, add those numbers together.
  • On LTE/5G: place the router near a window facing the tower, and choose FHD instead of 4K if the evening signal drops.
  • Load-shedding: put the ONT and router on a UPS or inverter. When power comes back, restart the app if the stream does not reconnect.
  • No VPN needed: our servers work directly. An active VPN on your stick can even slow the picture down.
  • Favourites lists: create groups like "SA news" (SABC News, eNCA, Newzroom Afrika), "Local shows" (Mzansi Magic, Moja Love, kykNET) and "Sport" for PSL, URC and the Proteas.

How do I set up IPTV on a Samsung or LG TV?
Install IBO Player or Smart IPTV from your TV's app store. The app shows a MAC address. Enter that MAC address together with your playlist link on the app's website. After restarting the app, the channels appear.
What internet speed do I need for IPTV in South Africa?
A stable connection of about 10 Mbps is enough for HD and about 25 Mbps for 4K. Most fibre lines handle this easily, and many ADSL and LTE/5G connections do too. Stability matters more than speed: where possible, connect your TV or box to the router with a network cable.
Will IPTV keep working during load-shedding?
It works as long as your router and your viewing device have power. If you have a UPS or inverter, put the fibre ONT and router on it. When power returns, restart the app if the stream does not reconnect by itself.
What if IPTV does not work after setup?
Check that the username, password and server URL are entered exactly as in the e-mail, restart the app and your router, and try a different channel. If that does not help, message our support team on WhatsApp or e-mail. We help around the clock.
